Acronis Cyber Protect
Manage Acronis tenants, devices, backups, and protection plans from chat.
Dex connects to Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud over the REST API with OAuth2 client credentials and lets admins and employees drive backup and cyber-protection work in natural language — navigating the tenant hierarchy, inspecting protected devices, reviewing alerts, running on-demand backups, and managing protection plans — with policy guardrails and audit logging.
What Dex does with Acronis Cyber Protect
Dex handles both admin workflows and employee self-service — all policy-guardrailed and audit-logged.
For admins (CoAdmin)
- Navigate the Partner → Customer → Unit tenant hierarchy and inspect any tenant's details
- Pull usage and quota information per tenant (storage, workload counts, offering items)
- Create new customer tenants and update names, enabled state, or contact info (version-locked)
- List and manage users per tenant, including creating new Acronis users
- List every protected resource (machines, machine groups) and drill into resource details
- Review registered backup agents and their status, host, and version
- List alerts with severity filters (critical, error, warning, information) and acknowledge or close them
- List, get, create, and update protection plans; apply or revoke plans against specific resources
- List, filter, and run backup tasks; cancel running tasks when needed
For employees (self-service)
- Check whether your own device is protected and when it last backed up
- See the recent backup tasks for your device and whether any failed
- View critical or error-level alerts on your own device
- Request an on-demand backup of your own device using its assigned protection plan
- Ask which protection plan is currently applied to your device
Just ask Dex
Your team types a request in plain language. Dex investigates, plans, and executes — with the right guardrails.
Admin prompts
- >Show me every customer tenant with storage usage over 80% of quota
- >List every critical alert across the tenant from the last 24 hours and acknowledge the ones already handled
- >Which machines haven't had a successful backup in more than 7 days?
- >Create a daily backup protection plan and apply it to every machine in the "Finance" group
- >Run an on-demand backup for resource id {resource_id} right now
Employee prompts
- >Is my laptop being backed up?
- >When did my last backup run, and did it succeed?
- >Show me any critical Acronis alerts for my computer
- >Start an on-demand backup of my device
- >Which protection plan is my laptop on?
Policy actions
Every action Dex can take on Acronis Cyber Protect is declared, scoped, and guardrailed. Admins control which apply, who approves them, and whether they're limited to self-service.

How to configure Acronis Cyber Protect
Onboarding takes minutes. Dex validates your credentials before saving them.
Setup steps
- 1Sign in to the Acronis Management Console as an administrator and go to Settings > API Clients.
- 2Create a new API client for Dex and copy the Client ID and Client Secret (the secret is shown once).
- 3Note your data-center URL — it varies by region (e.g., https://eu8-cloud.acronis.com).
- 4In Dex, enable the Acronis Cyber Protect integration and paste the data-center URL, client ID, and client secret.
- 5Dex validates the credentials by running the OAuth2 client-credentials flow and a test call to the platform API before saving.
- 6Configure policy actions (list_alerts, manage_alert, list_devices, check_protection_status, run_backup, manage_protection_plan) with approval requirements and self-only constraints.
Credentials required
- datacenter_url
- Your Acronis data center URL (e.g., https://eu8-cloud.acronis.com)
- client_id
- Client ID from Acronis API client (Settings > API Clients)
- client_secret
- Client Secret generated when creating the API client
Requirements
- •Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud tenant with at least one registered backup agent
- •API client created in the Acronis Management Console under Settings > API Clients
- •The client_secret is shown once at creation — if lost, rotate and issue a new one
- •Tenant updates use optimistic locking — Dex must include the current `version` from the GET response
- •On-demand backups require the target resource to already have an assigned protection plan
- •Data-center URL is region-specific (EU8, US, etc.); using the wrong region returns 401/404
