Hudu

Work your Hudu IT documentation from chat - articles, assets, networks, procedures, websites, and locked-down passwords, scoped per customer.

Dex connects to Hudu, the MSP IT documentation platform, so admins can work customer documentation directly from chat - search and read knowledge base articles, look up documented assets and their custom fields, browse networks, VLANs and IP addresses, read procedures and website records, and create or update articles and assets. Password records stay locked down: listing a Hudu password returns it in cleartext, so both listing and revealing carry an approval gate and are kept away from end users entirely. Employees can self-serve read-only lookups of their own company documentation through Dex Go. Available as an MSP global app: one shared Hudu API key covers every customer on the instance, and each Dex tenant is confined to its own Hudu Company by Company ID. A scheduled import can pull your Hudu knowledge base into a Dex dataset so answers stay current.

What Dex does with Hudu

Dex handles both admin workflows and employee self-service — all policy-guardrailed and audit-logged.

A

For admins (Dex Pro)

  • Search and read Hudu knowledge base articles for a customer
  • Look up documented assets, their layouts, serials, and custom-field values
  • Browse networks, VLANs, and IP addresses
  • Read procedures, runbooks, and checklists
  • Read monitored website records by id and check SSL and domain expirations
  • Create and update knowledge base articles and documented assets - with the right approvals
  • List, reveal, create, update, and delete password records - approval-gated, and never exposed to end users
  • Import your Hudu knowledge base into a Dex dataset on a schedule so answers stay current
  • Deploy as an MSP global app - one shared API key, each customer confined to its own Hudu Company by Company ID
E

For employees (self-service)

  • Search your own company documentation for how-to answers, like connecting to the VPN
  • Look up a documented asset - the model of a device, a serial number, or a custom field
  • Check network and connectivity details recorded for your company
  • Read a step-by-step procedure or checklist

Just ask Dex

Your team types a request in plain language. Dex investigates, plans, and executes — with the right guardrails.

Admin prompts

  • >Find the VPN setup article for Acme and summarize the steps
  • >Show me the documented assets for Contoso on the Server layout
  • >What networks and VLANs are recorded for Northwind?
  • >Create a knowledge base article for Acme documenting the new printer setup
  • >What websites are we monitoring for Contoso, and are any SSL certs expiring soon?

Employee prompts

  • >How do I connect to the VPN?
  • >What is the model of the conference room display?
  • >What VLAN is the office printer on?
  • >Walk me through the new-hire onboarding checklist

Policy actions

Every action Dex can take on Hudu is declared, scoped, and guardrailed. Admins control which apply, who approves them, and whether they're limited to self-service.

How to configure Hudu

Onboarding takes minutes. Dex validates your credentials before saving them.

Setup steps

  1. 1
In Hudu, go to Admin > Account Administration > API Keys and create an API key for Dex.
  2. 2
Leave "Allow access to Passwords" OFF unless you want Dex to handle credentials, keep "Prevent destructive actions" ON unless you need delete workflows, and leave "Allow export" OFF.
  3. 3
On the MSP-master key, do not set a single-company restriction - it must cover every company.
  4. 4
In Dex, enable the Hudu integration and paste your instance URL (e.g. https://yourcompany.huducloud.com, no /api/v1 suffix) and the API key.
  5. 5
Dex validates the key with a live call before saving. For MSPs, map each customer tenant to its numeric Hudu Company ID (the number in the company URL, e.g. .../companies/14 becomes 14).

Credentials required

api_key
Hudu API key from Admin > Account Administration > API Keys (secret)
base_url
Your Hudu instance URL, e.g. https://yourcompany.huducloud.com - https only, without the /api/v1 suffix
company_id
This tenant's numeric Hudu Company ID - leave blank on the MSP-master connection, set it per tenant to confine every call to that customer

Requirements

  • A Hudu instance with an API key created under Admin > Account Administration > API Keys
  • Per-key toggles for password access, destructive actions, and export are enforced by Hudu, not by Dex
  • The API key is subject to a 300 requests/minute budget shared across every customer on the instance
  • For MSPs, deploy as a global app - one shared API key, each Dex tenant confined to its own Hudu Company by Company ID
